Visiting Hours in the Smith Funeral Home on Sunday from 3-5 PM. Services will conclude with interment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden. The family would like to thank the Lahey Medical Center physicians, the staff at Hogan Regional Center and the staff at Coastal Connections for their kindness, caring and support. Expressions of sympathy in Frances' name may be made to Coastal Connections, 35 Water St., Amesbury, MA 01913.

On the notification of her passing, Deb Plummer notified the staff and employees of Hogan with this email,

It is with deep sadness that we have learned that Fran Preskul passed away this morning, peacefully, at Hogan with her family by her side.
Fran has been with us since the early 1990's and all of us who knew her, loved her. She taught us about genuine joy - no strings attached, boisterous joy! She was elated to see everyone of us everyday - we can't even imagine having that kind of joy on a continuous basis!!!!! Her rambunctious greetings and infectious sense of humor filled our agency with joy!! I truly believe we will hear her voice echo in our halls as long as we live!
Fran taught us to love unconditionally - just have fun, play games, wear whatever you want and you would look great, and be proud of who you are.....no one was going to change Fran...and there was no need. Give her a cup of coffee, a good laugh and warm greeting and she was set for the day - what an example for life!!
We all are sad to loose such an infectious member of our Coastal family - but we need to carry on - which means we bring Francis and all her goodness with us!
That is how we will honor her - as you greet people, make them feel special, act silly and simply enjoy every day that you have....always with a smile.
Please send prayers of strength to all who loved Fran - and remember - she will always be with us....I saw the quote below and thought it was perfect - yes, Fran in all her color and vibrancy was the rainbow for all of us.......Deb

On the day Frances passed away, she was to accept a Certificate of Achievement for exemplifing ideals of Self-Determenation, presented to her by the Northeast Region Department of Developmental Services. The facility director accepted it on her behalf that evening. Below is an excerpt for the reason for her award.

Fran Preskul has lived at Hogan Regional Center for many years. During the past year, she has had a commendable adjustment to the potentially life threatening diagnosis that was made following her extended hospitalization in 2015. Fran has been able to bounce back from her illness and sustain her typical sociable and fun-loving personality, despite many interruptions in her typical routines and medical interventions over the year to treat her illness.

It has been inspiring to her family and staff to watch Fran rally and fully engage in all of her favorite recreation and leisure activities. She was eager to return to her community based day program at Coastal Connections and continues to thrive with her activities and staff there. Fran loves to participate in Special Olympics and the many holiday and party events that have occurred over the past year, including a vacation at Hampton Beach and going to Camp Allen.

Fran has been blessed with an amazingly supportive family, who has maintained their life- long warm and loving relationship with her throughout this year of frequent medical monitoring. Their concern and devotion to her well-being, as well as the loving and devoted care and support of her staff have seen her through this significant challenge. Throughout it all, Fran continues to display her typical jolly, affectionate and loving attitude toward all who support her, to her peers, and to everyone she meets.
Congratulations, Fran! You are a true inspiration.
